Somatotypes

There are different body types according to a diet developed in 1940’s. It related body type with
personality, physical strengths, weaknesses and behaviours.
According to Somatotyping our bodies are of Three different types

A. Ectomorph
B. Mesomorph
C. Endomorph

A. Ectomorph: Ectomorphs are those who are very lean and do not gain much Weight.
They don’t add muscle mass very easily after working out. Also do not gain fat weight easily
if they are not doing exercise.

B. Ectomorph: They are opposite of ectomorphs. They are people who lose and gain weight
easily. Their body shape is similar to pear. They have body fat in and around hips and
thighs. They do

C. Mesomorph: As the name suggests they lie somewhere between the above two
categories. They have atheletic build, gain muscle easily. They have a good metabolism.
Therefore these are genetically superior to other two body types.

We can be a combination of above types. Eating according to our body types will help us. Following
are a few diet tips for each body type:

1. Ectomorphs handle carbs very well so they do not have health issues as that of other body
types. But as they less muscle mass they should increase their protein intake and add some
strength training exercises in their regime.
2. Endomorphs: Their goal should be of fat loss. A fat based on high protein, high fat and low
carb would be best for them.
3. Mesomorphs: As they have advantage genetically. Their aim should be to maintain the
muscle they have. Moderate carb, moderate protein and fat would work for them.
